My own conflicts

sambazapeace.org

In the cartoon you have read about different conflicts within a family, such as:
The conflict about the stolen objects between Jimo and the rest of the family.
The conflict between Kyalo and his father about talking to Baba Benny.
The conflict between Mama and Baba Benny.

In this activity you will reflect on the conflicts that you encounter in every day life. You can do this activity in Microsoft word, Open word or on paper.

Step 1. Think of all the conflicts you have been involved in, in the last few weeks.

Step 2. Open a new blank document and make a table with 3 columns and about 5 or 6 rows. To do this you go to 'Table'. There you click on insert and then on table. Fill in the number of columns and rows. In the top row, put into the columns: 'Conflict with' 'About' and 'Status'.

Step 3. Now fill into the columns the conflicts you have been having and who you have had them with, as in this example.

Step 4. There are 5 ways conflicts go:

  • Those which you have not solved yet.
  • Those which you have tried to ignore.
  • Those in which you have just let the other person / people have their own way so that you could keep the peace.
  • Those which have turned violent.
  • Those which you have resolved nonviolently.

Complete your table by adding in the 'status' of each conflict as per the 5 ways you could have responded to the conflict.

Step 5. Choose one of these conflicts, one that you would like to be able to resolve peacefully and in a way that keeps or builds a good relationship between you and the other person. And plan to do it!
